ROC Kids Fest continues to raise funds to offset Jamaican student’s educational expenses
The ROC Foundation in partnership with Cherine TV proudly announces the 2nd Annual ROC Kids Festival 2015. The all-day children’s music and action festival will take place on Saturday, July 4 from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm at its new home, the Jessie Ripoll Primary Field in Kingston, Jamaica.
A one-day fun-filled family musical and educational experience, ROC Kids Fest 2015 is a community call to action and will be represented by over ten non-profit organizations, top universities from the Caribbean and North America, children’s-rights activists, speakers, poets and vendors, as well as performances by some of the hottest artistes in reggae, dancehall, gospel and roots music.
The event’s main focus is to provide educational as well as needs-based scholarships and grants for outstanding students from the inner city and deep rural Jamaica through the ROC Scholarship Programme. To date, a total of 35 students have benefited from the ROC Scholarship Programme. Many continue to participate in the foundation’s mentorship programme, serving as student mentors through ROC’s mentorship school tours, as well as other community based partnerships.
Early bird ROCiTs (coupons) can be obtained from participating schools and sponsors as well as from pre-festival events being held in partnership with Groove Campus throughout May and June. ROCiTs allow supporters of the festival discounted admission of JMD$200 for children and JMD$300 for adults at the gate. Early bird ROCiTs automatically enter participating patrons in the grand prize give away of Android smart phones courtesy of Zlink Entertainment, Inc. ROCiTs for the event will also be available at ROC’s Kingston headquarters and by phone at 876-813-9930, and must be activated to be eligible for admission discount. Additional details can be found viawww.rockidsfest.com/tickets.
This year’s musical headliners include dancehall icon Sizzla, reggae/dancehall soulstress Cherine Anderson and gospel sensation Kevin Downswell. Other top acts confirmed to perform are Ikaya, Nickieshia Barnes, Mario Evon, Ch4se and more. The festival will also introduce the next generation of gifted child performers from the Groove Campus Spring School Tour and Radio Show.
The official song for ROC Kids Fest 2015 is “Try” performed by Cherine Anderson, and will be available for limited download via www.rockidsfest.com. Part proceeds from the sale of “Try” will go towards purchasing a bus to transport volunteers of ROC’s school tour and community mentorship programmes.
